THE END IS NEAR!
Doom and gloom time soon as the world, as we know it, is about to end. Well they have been saying that for a long time, but seriously this time even Tony Blair is preaching the gospel of despair and he recently converted to Roman Catholicism so maybe he knows something you and I don’t. This is all a bit spooky, scary even when you consider that Blair is not alone among the world’s leading politicians in predicting a sticky end for us all unless…well unless we pay more taxes is what it all boils down to. Or am I being cynical?
Once upon a time, a long, long time ago there was a Mesoamerican civilisation called The Mayan. According to the latest peddlers of fear the Mayan calendar ends at the year 2012. Don’t panic! These ancient, though highly developed people, were not just builders of fine cities where astronomy and mathematics were studied and taught, they also practised human sacrifice specialising in the removal of the hearts of young children who would be held down by the priests whilst having their most vital organ ripped from their chests to placate the gods. Different gods than ours, but way back then they needed their blood sacrifice and gods, false, make believe or not, tend to get what the priests tell the people they want. Today we are being told that sacrifices have to be made or the world will end. 55 days to find the solution Tony Blair said, so not long now folks!
According to the sages on the world-wide-web at sunrise on December 21, 2012 for the first time in 26,000 years the Sun raises to conjunct the intersection of the Milky Way and the plane of the ecliptic. This cosmic cross is considered to be an embodiment of the Sacred Tree, The Tree of Life a tree remembered in all the world’s spiritual traditions. At this point in time we all cease to exist, or that is the latest theory.
In the USA there is a man called Al Gore who, somewhat optimistically, ran for President against the man who was counting the votes, one George W. Bush. Al Gore has made quite a name for himself predicting doom and gloom ahead unless we all cease using carbon based fuel etc. That is you and I stop using all this fuel, Al Gore needs it as he has a private jet plane, numerous huge Hummer style off the road vehicles and a massive swimming pool all consuming fuel. But we are being told by him that it all has to stop, at least for us. It’s either that or Armageddon according to good old Al. But I just do not believe him. He’s having a laugh!
The green movement do have a point; we all in the developed Western Civilisation consume vast amounts of the natural resources of the world. However, it is a fundamental law of physics that energy can not be dissipated it exists perpetually. Albert Einstein’s theory of relativity shows that energy can be converted to mass (rest mass) and mass converted to energy. Therefore, neither mass nor pure energy are conserved separately, as it was understood in pre-relativistic physics. Today, conservation of energy refers to the conservation of the total mass-energy, which includes energy of the rest mass. Therefore, in an isolated system, mass and ‘pure energy’ can be converted to one another, but the total amount of energy (which includes the energy of the mass of the system) remains constant. So what is the problem?
We as spirits within a physical human body are a form of energy and we will all in time move out of the incarnate form and become discarnate beings, i.e. spirits. There appears to me to be a misunderstanding amongst many believers in life after death and this concerns the nature of the form we take in the next dimension. In time I am certain that the scientific world will prove that our physical forms, our human bodies, are powered by an energy source that we today call the spirit. As this spirit is a form of energy it will one day be possible for scientists to detect this within living organisms and identify it as being that which makes us alive. The misunderstanding that I perceive is this: Spirit is energy and that energy is life, the life that uses that energy is The Soul and that is where the problem is as I see it. When speaking of life after death we are discussing natural phenomena, as Einstein identified, energy cannot die, it can only transfer form. The question that then creates the conundrum is what directs that energy that we call Spirit? The answer is The Soul and it is the soul that is what we really are not just energy, in whatever form that energy is expressed. So the physical body is not that important to our Soul, our Soul uses the energy of the Spirit.
If we, as Spiritualists, accept that the power force within our physical bodies is the Spirit and that this Spirit will continue to exist long after the physical body has been destroyed then what is all the fuss about the end of the world? We are all heading for the ultimate physical exit anyway and not a one of us alive today incarnate in even the best physical body will be doing much good in a hundred years time. But our spirits will be. Eternity awaits so why not stop all the gloomies and get along with having some fun.
At many Spiritualist meetings the service starts with hymns, why not with some even jollier songs; Knees Up Mother Brown etc. and have a laugh. The world we are all to enter sooner or later is no holy shrine of silence and meditation it is bustling with life and energy. We are that energy. We are life and as souls on a pathway to paradise the body we are currently locked into is only a temporary vessel in which we are given the opportunity to experience many things and to learn from those experiences, both good and bad, happy and sad.
The Mayan calendar may well end in 2012 but one thing that will never end is you and I. We will all live into infinity and beyond as Spirit is energy and energy is eternal. Accept this, get your old Mrs. Mills LPs onto the record player and start dancing. In all cultures, everyone that there has ever been, including the Mayan, the people danced. Forget the end of the world and concentrate on enjoying yourself. After all, you’re a long time living!
