Once Upon A Time in Libya

In the year 1969 John was a soldier serviving with BAOR in Germany. In August of that year John’s Regiment flew oversesas to the country of Libya that at the time was ruled by King Idris. During the early days of September 1969 one Colonel Ghaddafi took over in a bloodless coup. That event led to John and his fellow solidiers being trapped in the middle of the sahara desert. In February 2011 the people of Libya began a revolt against the regime of Colonel Ghaddafi who had been in charge for 42 years. As the riots and attacks on the Libyan leader continued the BBC asked for first hand accounts of people who had experienced life in Libya, this is the interview John gave to BBC Radio Lancashire on Friday 25th February 2011.
