LONDON’S WEST END
CELEBRITY ART/PSYCHIC NIGHT
By John G. Sutton
London’s West End art scene held a special celebrity show at The Strand Gallery in November featuring the work of the painter/artist Hetty Baynes-Russell the former wife of the late film director Ken Russell (The Devils, Tommy, Women In Love etc.) Hetty invited two of the UKs top psychics to give a demonstration at her opening night on Tuesday 13th these were TV Psychic Wayne Isaacs and your very own Psychic World’s John G. Sutton (that would be me). Let’s start at the very beginning, a very good place to start as they say in the song. Hetty Baynes-Russell and I have been connecting on a psychic level for some considerable time and one of the personal predictions I made for Hetty, who was using my clairvoyant services and still is, was that she would be well known for much more than her acting on television and in films. Hetty has been in many films, was once in one of the Carry On series and has featured in movies alongside Oliver Reed and many top stars. Her long list of 63 television shows include ‘Doctors’ ‘The Hour’ ‘Cutting It’ ‘Footballer’s Wives’ ‘The Bill’ and date right back to ‘Z Cars’ in the late 70s. What I saw for her, many months ago, was a new series on TV and a lot of magazine attention for her creative work that would bring wide acclaim and a lot of attention. It was then Hetty told me she had, over the years, been creating a pictorial diary of her life by painting scenes from the high points and seriously low points in a collection she called ‘Betsy and Blapsy’ these are two sides to the complex showbiz character that is the amazing Hetty. Besty is the wildly extrovert side and Blapsy the quiet spiritual introverted aspect of her nature. The 35 paintings that collectively form the body of her work are classed as an autobiographical collection, what a brilliant and very Blapsy idea with a lot of Betsy thrown in too. As soon as I heard about this I advised I could see a really smart art gallery in the West End of London and there she would encounter incredible success.
Almost a year passed and Hetty had done little about the very detailed prediction I had made, life had been for her the usual rollercoaster ride of successful highs (she featured in the TV Series THE HOUR) and the lows, well we won’t go into that as it her personal life. Time passed and then she called me out of the blue one day to say that at last the opportunity had come to present her art to the world in an exhibition. It was just as I had seen so she knew it was destiny and agreed to do the show. As I said at the start, I was there on the night to see it all happening and yes it really was a happy happening. How did I get there you may wonder? Hetty invited me and I suggested that her many celebrity guests may enjoy a psychic reading as they perused her collection of art and advised that the London based TV Psychic Wayne Isaacs may like to attend. She agreed, Betsy loves psychic readings, so I contacted Wayne Isaacs, whose new book: Wayne Isaacs I Am Not Mad, I AM Psychic, I am writing, we speak most days, when asked he agreed to do it. Especially when I told him OK! Magazine had the rights to photograph the evening and he would likely be in it. Wayne is very photogenic and youthful and I am very psychic so I could see him in the magazine. On the night the photographer and the video cameraman were all over him as Wayne did celebrity after celebrity, including one of my own favourite actors the incredibly talented Paul McGann (the cult movie ‘Whitnail and I’, and on TV his career really started with the brilliant adaptation of ‘The Monocled Mutineer’ by William Alison and John Farley, he even played an incarnation of ‘Dr Who’) The OK! Magazine cameraman took one look at my ugly mug, long white hair and grizzled grey beard then he did a runner. So you won’t see John G. Sutton in OK! But worry not dear reader, there is a pic here for you to dream on.
My personal celebrity readings included the film, TV and stage actress Susannah Harker, she is of course the wife of Paul McGann. What a delightful and very spiritual lady Susannah is and also a brilliant success in her own right (Films include: ‘White Mischief’ ‘A Dry White Season, with TV appearances including ‘Dr. Who, as Claire Keightley’ ‘House of Cards as Mattie Storin for which she was BAFTA nominated). Susannah has a West End Theatre future that I could see and she has played numerous theatrical parts one of which I could see in her past was in the famous Oscar Wilde play ‘The Importance of Being Ernest’ which she confirmed she had been in at The South Bank Theatre. You will be seeing a lot more of Susannah Harker in the near future as when I looked into her eyes I could see wide acclaim ahead for her forthcoming role as a female detective and she has not even received the script yet so take note, this is a prediction we can all look forward to.
The queue for the psychic readings of John (myself) and Wayne was running through the lower floor, where we were seated, right up the stairs and into the main gallery. It was obviously a very popular attraction and from what I was told afterwards we were getting really positive reviews. One man went up to my dear wife Mary who was as usual there looking after me, he said to her, ‘that man over there stunned my wife, she has been in tears of joy ever since she spoke to him, named the names, locations, all he said was spot on’ then he pointed to me. I saw one gentleman and it was clear to me he was from Australia and had been a little down with life not feeling so good about himself. He agreed, gave me a kind of ‘what a lot of old cobblers’ look then I saw around him hundreds and hundreds of hens and boxes of eggs. I advised him of this vision and he nearly fell off his chair telling me that his business in Australia was a huge poultry farm and yes they sold hen’s eggs.
The night was great fun and one wonderful feature was the dancing of eight year old Rumanian ballet dancer Octavia (She featured on TVs dancing programme competition and was a runner up) who did a simply incredible display showing her tremendous talent for artistic interpretation. One thing about this feature that was very synchronistic is the fact that age eleven years the young Hetty Baynes was herself a seriously accomplished ballet dancer as depicted in some of her paintings. Octavia was there at the celebrity art night as a direct result of her manager sending me an email via Wayne Isaacs and I had simply passed this directly to Hetty who had pirouetted with delight at the idea of inviting her.
One extra exhibit at the Hetty Baynes-Russell art show was a photograph that has been featured in this newspaper, it was taken by Mary my wife and shows the long gone spirit of my Scottish terrier Sutty Dog materialising in my hair. Mary had printed the photograph onto an A4 size sheet, framed this and put it on display close to where Wayne Isaacs and I were conducting our psychic consultations. Many people came to look at this and were astonished by the clarity of the spirit image. One gentleman, a famous Radio producer Peter Cavanagh spoke to Mary about the image of the spirit of Sutty Dog and asked if he could photograph it for his website. This he did and Mary was shown the result on his digital camera she says it was really very obviously our long dead pet Sutty Dog.
The world of Art, Theatre and TV turned out to support the wonderful Hetty there were many famous names there including one of the original dragons from the TV series Dragon’s Den that was Simon Woodruff. The artist Paul Branson was there, he has just painted a portrait of Prince Philip the Duke of Edinburgh. Michael Rosenberg attended he works alongside Sir David Frost. Amanda Bellamy the actress enjoyed the amazing Octavia. Wendy Oberman the script writer and producer was there, we shared an acquaintance in the pop singer P.J. Proby as we had both worked with him in the past. Michelle Newell was there admiring Hetty’s emotive artwork. PsychicWorld were not the only press, The London Evening Standard had a journalist there, Jessica she loved the Betsy and Blapsy work. The Lady Magazine had their Arts Editor staring in amazement at the evocative images Hetty had created. The West End Theatre producer Duncan C. Weldon came along and spoke of how impressed he was with a number of Hetty’s paintings. The list is like a Who’s Who of the London Art scene, one had to be there to feel the excitement and John G. Sutton was.
At the end of the evening there was still a long queue to see the psychics John and Wayne but we had to stop at some point. Hetty and her son, the handsome young man Rex who looks very much like a taller version of his father Ken Russell came and called a halt. We simply had to leave as the gallery was closing. I was just getting my jacket on, well Mary was helping me, and a rather ethnically robed tall dark obviously African man came up and handed me one of the crystals we had been using to help with the concentration of psychic energy, he asked me to quickly tune in. The man had he said been standing in line for over an hour and we were now closed for business before he got to see either Wayne or I. Taking the crystal from him I was immediately aware of loud music played in a jazz style, swinging along and rhythmic so I wanted to sway with the beat, which is a rather difficult thing for me to do as I only have one leg, so I kind of wobbled about a bit and looked this colourfully dressed dark skinned man in the eyes. I advised I could see a recording studio in New York, success through a connection with a certain sound engineer or record producer and one special track that would be used in a film. The big guy gave me a huge smile, eyes twinkling he said ‘I am a musician, I play all over the world, have connections in New York and you John have the most lovely wife I just got to take a photograph’. With that he whipped out a really expensive looking camera and snapped a pic of Mary who was looking her demure and collected self, as ever. His name he said was Lekiddo, one day we will all be singing his songs, Psychic John G. Sutton predicts that.
Hetty Baynes-Russell is now on her way to a new career as an artist and script-writer. Her latest work is a comedy TV series titled ‘Shut up, be pretty’ and it is with her agent as I write this. Hetty’s personal life I will not discuss other than to say she is on her way to a happy ending, which is something her crazy two characters Blapsy and Betsy will be delighted with I am absolutely certain of that. This is the email Hetty Baynes sent me the following day: ‘What an amazing night!!! Everyone was raving about the readings!! I couldn’t believe what a success the night was.’ Thanks for a wonderful evening Hetty, you really are a star.
