THE STRANGE LIFE OF BILL BROOKS
In the year 1968 I was a nineteen year old soldier 24138960 Gunner Sutton serving with the British Army stationed at Dempsey Barracks, Sennelager, Germany. My barrack room was on the second floor of a huge old four storey building that dated back to before WWII. I shared this room with three other young soldiers, we each had a corner with a military issue metal bed and a large dark green locker. It was long gone midnight and all of the occupants of my room were in bed sound asleep as I was too until something disturbed me. I woke on hearing the sound of footsteps walking across the bare wooden floor and can recall thinking to myself that it was the drunken Welshman that had the bed in the far corner by the window. Sitting up slightly I looked forward to see who it was, it was not Taffy. Standing at the foot of my bed was a horrible looking apparition that seemed to be lit from within it looked like an injured soldier as its head was half missing. I remember trying to scream but could not make a sound nor could I move, I was literally transfixed with terror.
It was January of this year and I was working in my office when the telephone rang and on answering it I heard a voice I recognised, it was a man called Bill Brooks. Bill had been a soldier with me forty eight years ago and I had neither seen nor heard from him since I left Germany in 1972. I wondered what Bill wanted and having exchanged the usual pleasantries he came to the point, he wanted to know if I had any memory of an incident in the barrack room when a weird ghost like entity had appeared at the foot of our beds. Of course I had perfect recollection of it the sight had really scared me and it had obviously done the same to Bill who had been sleeping in the bed opposite me. He asked me a number of searching questions about what we had seen and for a while I felt that he thought it had been some kind of a joke that I had played on him. It most certainly was not a joke and I had been as terrified as he obviously was. It seemed odd to me that Bill would take the trouble to find me after almost fifty years to ask about that mysterious sighting and I asked him what prompted this. Bill explained that he was writing a book about his strange life and wanted to check the facts with me concerning that particular paranormal phenomena.
In late July of this year I was pleasantly surprised to receive in the mail a copy of Bill’s book it is titled ’44 An Ex Soldier’s True Story’. In this book he gives an account of our shared experience back in 1968 when we both saw that fear invoking apparition. I read this book with great interest and it really is an incredible story that Bill has to tell about his seriously strange life. You see Bill Brooks is man who according to his written testimony has been abducted by aliens many, many times. I realize that most people who make such claims are disbelieved and considered by some to be fabricating their accounts. But I knew Bill all those years ago and I shared one of his weird encounters with the unexplained. To me Bill seems to be as he was back then, an ordinary guy with a rather pronounced Black Country accent. So despite the extraordinary nature of his story I felt it must be as he believed it to be yet it is almost beyond belief. Let me give you an example:
In the chapter headed ‘First Major (Mass) Abduction Event in the Army’ Bill gives an incredible account of witnessing a number of soldiers being abducted into an alien space craft. There are his words:
‘ It was a late autumnal evening, around eight or nine when we noticed an orange-coloured mist coming towards our position which definitely got our attention. The soldier I was with Joe said he believed it was a simulated gas attack. We went back to the base camp to warn our section to put on their gas masks. When we arrived we were surprised to find everyone asleep in their vehicles. We woke an NCO and reported to him what we had seen and that we thought this was a simulated gas attack. He said it was not possible as the training exercise had been cancelled and the section was on stand down. Joe and I then found somewhere to rest and as we lay back on some camouflage nets I saw an incredible scene. I saw a light and what looked like smoke coming towards us. As I looked away from the light my field of vision rested on a further site that I could make no sense of. I watched with incredulity a scene that I knew should not be possible and strained my eyes to make sure that what I was seeing was not a figment of my imagination. The men, as if under orders began leaving the vehicles they been sleeping soundly in which were parked a little closer to the field than we were. They seemed to be in a trance and looked for all the world as if they were floating towards some object with very bright lights in the field. Obscured by the brightness of the light, I struggled to make out any details of what I was seeing though it looked like some kind of vehicle. The guys had been on exercise during the day and were exhausted, yet here they were all moving in unison, but in an apparent state of sleep. Joe and I had a panoramic view because we were on top of a vehicle on the camouflage nets and very much awake. I decided to investigate and see where the men had gone and started down from the vehicle, but Jo said no, stay put. Don’t go. I didn’t know then that he could see armed men coming out of the woods, walking in our direction. Our vehicle was parked about 100 yards in front of the woods and to the right was the field where I now believe a UFO had landed. As I looked up and saw Joe staring towards the wood I quickly stared in that direction and was suddenly confronted by a man dressed in black coveralls with some kind of small blue square shaped badge at the top of the right sleeve. It soon became apparent that there were several of these men similarly dressed all with guns and as far as I could tell they were all blonde. This guy in front of me had a gun that he was pointing in my direction. He spoke and said walk towards the light. I hesitated because I could still hear Joe telling me not to go.
The following morning we were all standing on parade in the field with high ranking officers in front of us. Once again, I now know this to be very unusual, but it was still all in my first week in the regiment, so I had nothing to judge it by. I could see there were two rows of us on parade I didn’t know any of them except Joe. He stood next to me asking in a whisper, if I remembered anything of what happened. As it turns out I didn’t. I have no memory of anything at all, not even how I got on parade and so of course I had no idea what he meant, or that we’ve all been a part of a mass abduction. I noticed some of the guys on parade were wearing the old battle dress uniform from years before, though I was in the usual army fatigues. Again, I had no idea if this was normal or not, though I later discovered that the uniform had been phased out 10 years previously so that was very odd. I remember we were told in no uncertain terms by the senior officers that what had happened the night before must never be spoken about or discussed between us ever.
There are many such accounts in the book by Bill Brooks of alien abductions and he became fully aware of these at the age of forty four when he mysteriously regained his memories. I found his book fascinating as I am sure you will. The title is ‘44’ and it is available online at Amazon or at any good book store.
