MIDDLE AGED SPREAD

By

John G. Sutton

We used to dance all nighters

Drinking till daybreak

Rock ‘N’ Rolling careless with the

Hippy, Hippy, Shake

Beatles and Rolling Stones

The soundtrack to our nights

Brylcream and dandruff

Mini skirts without tights!

Round the back of Woolies

Up some alleyway

Can’t get no satisfaction

As the bra strap won’t give way

What happened to those years

When Elvis was The King

And Radio Caroline

Played songs we all could sing

What happened to our passion

The fumbling so grand

When my  little soldier

Stood to attention in your hand

Is it really all a memory

Has the lust gone from our bed?

And is all that’s left

Just middle aged spread?
