STOKESY CASTLE

Stokesy Castle
by Leonard Pike (1887 - 1954)

Psychicworld.net visited Stokesy Castle in Shropshire during October 2005. This is more a fortified mansion than a castle in the true sense but it is certainly atmospheric. The above is a copy of a painting by the artist Leonard Pike showing Stokesy Castle with the graveyard. Some hundred years after Pike painted Stokesy we found it almost unchanged.

Stokesy Castle and Graveyard.

As you can see the above photograph is almost exactly the same perspective as that shown in the painting by Leonard Pike. Standing by the old bent gravestones looking up at the ancient structure in daylight is sufficient to sense the almost timeless quality of Stokesy Castle. It is as if it has been locked into some twilight zone between this material world and the next.

Behind Stokesy Castle stands the twisted timber framed Jacobian mansion.

Jacobian Mansion House.

As you can see this ancient timber framed building has twisted with age. The central oak beam bends at either end giving this structure an eerie appearance.

Psychicworld.net did not locate any ghosts in Stokesy Castle but the atmosphere is really spooky and we recommend a visit.
