OBE: OUT OF BODY EXPERIENCES
John
G. Sutton
An Out Of Body Experience or
OBE can be defined as an experience in which a person
seems to perceive the world from a location outside the physical body. These
experiences are often spontaneous and sometimes linked to shock. There was a
famous cartoonist, whose name I will not disclose, in a bank in France when an
armed robbery took place. The robbers opened fire shooting a shotgun into the
ceiling and he, thinking he had sustained a hit, fell down and collapsed. During
this period of unconsciousness the man found himself outside his body and in an
airport lounge where he was surrounded by people that he did not know. He could
see airplanes outside the lounge and noted that among the strangers around him
was a lady dressed as a Nun. When he woke only moments had passed and he was
alive and in the bank, unhurt and the robbers were exiting with their haul.
I
myself have had numerous OBEs and one that was similar to the airport lounge
experience. Another time I was seriously ill and found myself flying around the
skies with a voice asking me where I wanted to go. After a brief visit to the
Taj Mahal and the Eiffel Tower I decided to go see my beloved grandparents at
their home in Foulridge, near Colne in Lancashire UK. But I never made it. I
came to earth some distance away and was met by the most beautiful lady dressed
all in shimmering white. She told me I now had a choice, to continue on and go
to my grandparents home or return to my body. As she said this she held out her
hand and a feeling of absolute peace and love flooded through me. I replied that
I had better return to my body and as I held her hand I was instantly
transported back to my 18 year old form and my fever had passed.
My
friend Jeff from the Lancashire town of Leigh told me how he fell asleep in a
chair in his lounge and, as he snoozed, discovered that he was walking down the
hallway of his house. Suddenly he realized that he was not in his body and a
terrible fear gripped him that he had in fact died and was now a ghost. At the
moment, as he thought those thoughts, he woke with a start and found himself
back within his physical form. Jeff told me that he had never really believed
that Out Of Body Experiences were true before but that had changed his mind.
One night I got up very fast and I
rushed into my son's bedroom because I thought I heard him getting up and
possibly going for a walk down the stairs. I was afraid he would trip and fall.
I rushed into his room and I stood by his bed and I found that he was all tucked
in. I wondered why I got up so fast. As I stood there, I looked down at myself
and I found that all of me was a light gray mist! Even my night clothes were all
gray. I was totally confused because this situation had never happened to me
before. Then I thought that I had better get out to the hallway and as soon as I
thought about doing that, my light gray body floated to the doorway. As I
floated to the door, I could see my gray body, but I didn't seem to have any
feet. As I stood there, I had a feeling that I could have gone through the wall
to the right and have gone sight-seeing, or I could have made a turn to the left
to go down the hallway where our bedroom was. I looked to my left and I could
see my bedroom and there I was sitting up in bed with my head against the back
of the bed. I was not moving at all.
At that point, I realized that my soul
was not in my heavy body that was sitting up in bed. It was with me in my light
gray misty body standing in the hallway. I knew my gray soul had to get back
into my body, but I didn't know how I was going to do that. The next thing I did
was that I floated down the hallway and I stood right next to the body that was
sitting up in bed. The bottom of my night clothes and area where my feet would
have been, came up and went into the top of the head of the body that was
sitting up in bed. At that point, I realized that I was one person... body and
soul. ( paranormal.about.com)
I have myself recently experienced
being out of my body. Myself and my wife Mary were on holiday in Spain and
asleep in a hotel bedroom. It would be perhaps 2am when I opened my eyes to see
that my wife’s astral body was floating above her physical form alongside my
own. I experienced an intense sense of absolute delight and exhilaration; I was
free from that heavy body and could fly. Turning to my wife I tried to persuade
her in her astral body to join me and escape. I pleaded with her to fly away
with me but as soon as she realized that she was not in her body she shook her
head and vanished. Then we both woke at once and whilst I had perfect recall she
said only that she had experienced a very strange dream in which she had been
floating. The question is, had she
agreed to join me on my astral adventure would we have ever woken again in this
material world?
