Launchy Ghyll is a waterfall situated in the Cumbrian Lake District running into Lake Thirlmere. The falls and surrounding area are a haven of peace and tranquility where ramblers and hikers stop to relax in the shade of the forest.

John G. Sutton:

I found the area around Launchy Ghyll to be darkly atmospheric, heavy with moisture. The ancient forest filters the sunbeams producing an almost twilight-zone feeling of unreality.  As likely places for fairies this appeared to me to be ideal.

As I observed the waterfall I noted that it had a strange luminosity, a kind of inner translucence as if elemental diaphanous beings were dancing on the spray.  Using my psychic powers I attempted to tune in to the falls but heard only the music of the crystal clear water as it cascaded down over aged rocks splashing its way to lake Thirlmere below.

The photographs show what I believe to be spirits, earth spirits, elementals that live in the forest and waterfall at Launchy Ghyll. You may look and think otherwise. But do pay a visit to this ancient wooded glade and see for yourself. I found it to be an uplifting almost spiritual experience that I would recommend to all.
