HAUNTED KENDAL

In the county of Cumbria Kendal is situated close by Lake Windermere and is a picturesque market town dating back into antiquity. I was recently asked by Psychicworld.net Ltd. to visit Kendal and tune in to the ancient atmosphere. Myself and my fellow psychic-investigator Mary McLoughlin went along to see what we could discover:

The River Kent winds its way through a rich valley of limestone hills and cliffs, known as fells, and down through the "Auld Grey Town" of Kendal, whose moniker refers to the large number of gray stone houses found in and about the town. Many visitors to the Lake District simply pass through Kendal on their way to more attractive destinations -- the town is a gateway rather than a true stopping place. It has never depended entirely on the tourist dollar. This fact should not deter you, however, from taking a bit of time to discover some of this market town's more intriguing areas.

Kendal contains the ruins of a castle where Catherine Parr, the last wife of Henry VIII, was allegedly born. Recent speculation about her actual birthplace has led to a clouding of the historic record. Even if she wasn't born here, it is still said that she most likely lived at the castle at some time in her life. Among other historic sites, Kendal has a 13th-century parish church that merits a visit.

Above you see a photograph I took of the 17th century Chocolate House located in the centre of Kendal town. Here Mary and I stood and tuned in to the ancient stones. As we did so I heard a voice from beyond this material world whisper the name 'Anne Fothergill'. The air around me seemed to chill and for one brief moment I could 'see' a lady in long flowing clothing with a bonnet on her head standing by that old stone staircase. Mary, my psychic assistant also felt the drop in temperature.

The above photograph shows the ancient Stonecross Manor Hotel situated on the old pack road to Kendal town by the side of the river Kent. My psychic assistant Mary McLoughlin and I held a midnight vigil in one of this old manor houses rooms. The hotel itself is a wonderfully modern place with a swimming pool, bar, restaurant etc. but best of all is the ancient atmosphere. As Mary and in tuned in we both felt the power of this magnificent building. Around 00:35 hrs as we concentrated our collective psychic powers we both felt, for one brief moment, as though we had been transported back in time. I 'saw' what appeared to be candle light flickering through the window, though outside all was still. Mary heard what she described as far away laughter echoing across the centuries from distant happy days now past. It was a truly magical experience and one you can enjoy for yourself by booking into The Stonecross Manor Hotel, Kendal telephone: 01539 733559  Fax: 01539 736386
