Develop Your Own Psychic Powers
Within the field of paranormal studies there are an immeasurable number of unexplained and seemingly inexplicable phenomena. The term that best encapsulates this area is occult, for it literally means obscured or hidden. And hidden from our understanding much of the paranormal world is. But this is only because we do not actively seek to extend our personal comprehension and develop our own psychic powers. There are some that believe that one has to be born with a ‘gift’ to be able to be a psychic or a medium. It is my contention that we all have some degree of ‘gift’ and that with the correct guidance and tuition we may all tune in to our hidden powers and experience at least some of the wide spectrum of phenomena that we refer to as paranormal.
Consider the term psychic itself, my dictionary defines this as: ‘pertaining to the human soul, spirit or mind; of or pertaining to phenomena that appear to be outside the domain of physical law, spiritualistic. One having psychic powers, a medium’. Therefore, assuming we accept that definition, we should also accept that we must all be psychic for we all have a mind, a spirit and a human soul. Hence we are all, by definition, psychic. That may seem an oversimplification but I argue that it is simply the truth. We each of us have a psyche (soul-spirit-mind) that exists within our individual corporeal body and we are only restricting it by the mistaken belief that this physical form is the real us. The truth is that the actual You inhabits the earthly incarnate form and you are no more your physical body than the driver of a ten ton truck is a ten ton truck. You may direct and manipulate your body, as a driver directs and manipulates a motor vehicle, but that does not make your psyche or soul become the physical form that you inhabit. You, the real you, is in fact a spirit and you are at liberty to explore both the known and the unknown to the limits of your imagination.
That then seems to me to be the key to the esoteric art of the psychic, one must first of all unshackle the mind and escape from what the poet Wordsworth termed ‘The Prison House’. As Wordsworth said: ‘The world is too much with us; late and soon, getting and spending, we lay waste to our powers’ in those words he expresses the thought that we are too materialistic and restrict our true nature. And also in his Ode: Intimations of Immortality ‘Heaven lies about us in our infancy’ meaning that as children we are aware of the spiritual and psychic world then less so as we grow and become socialised.
The question is of course what to do to unlock the gates of the prison house and set free the spirit to explore and develop the powers that it possesses as a right of birth. We are, at least I am, locked into a material world where I have to conform to order and a degree of uniformity. This has to be so or anarchy would rule and society as we know it would dissolve into chaos causing the physical death of many. So I accept the restrictions, as most of us do, but not all the time. I can escape the surly bonds of this often unforgiving world and I do so through meditation setting free my mind, my soul and spirit. When Nelson Mandella was asked how he survived those decades of unlawful imprisonment he replied that his spirit had never been in that prison and that he had travelled constantly from within his lonely cell. So can you, you are free and if you knew how you would walk among the moonlight and distant stars without any limitation other than the power of your own imagination.
In June of this year myself and the psychic-medium Gary Dakin are running a residential weekend course: Develop Your Own Psychic Powers.
