![]() Alfred Edward Housman the poet was born in the year 1859 near Bromsgrove in the county of Worcestershire. He was the eldest of seven children. Housman won a scholarship to St. John's College, Oxford where he gained a First Class Honours Degree in Classical Moderations. In 1892 Housman was appointed Professor of Latin at the University College London. His book of poetry 'A Shropshire Lad' was published in 1896 and it has been in print ever since. Housman went on to teach as a Professor at Cambridge. |
