My goal in writing is to help people become educated as to the many dimensions involved in the Church of Spirituality and the work of the Spiritual Healer. Those who come to the Church of Spiritualism frequently come from other religious disciplines and philosophies. Many have experienced other forms of healing. Frequently, experiences with other churches and methods of healing have been rigid, stating, that their way is the only way.
There are dis-eases of the body, mind and spirit that have not responded to medical science or treatment. Medical science has begun to recognize what holistic healers throughout the ages have known. Healers practicing Natural Law teach that the mind and body and heart and brain work as one. As long as each impulse from the mind and heart is healthy, the body and heart will flow naturally and healthfully from the present, moment by moment.People have always searched for cures to illness and disease. Hippocrates was credited with setting up definite standards for healing and healers which in time divided spiritual healing from scientific healing. Since then, there have been two distinctively different methods of treating illness. It is only recently that there is a strong movement towards holistic medicine. For those diseases that remain untouched or unresponsive to traditional medical treatment, we must be mindful of holistic cures used successfully by other cultures. Medical treatment is frequently invasive, looking for a cure within a methodology that is familiar to them. A holistic approach to healing treats the entire person, the body and emotions, recognising the Natural Law of healing. Some holistic forms of healing include: acupuncture, acupressure, ayurvedic medicine, homeopathic, chiropractic, kinesiology, massage therapy, psychotherapy and spiritual healing. People who seek help from the Spiritualist Healer come from all backgrounds. It is imperative that healers understand that various forms of healing are used in relieving suffering. They must also speak of healing clearly and uniformly as is stated in the standards for healing by the American Federation of Spiritualist Churches. Universal methods of healing in our churches and abiding by the code of ethics for spiritual healing protect both the healers and those sitting for healing.
One of the most important things for a healer to understand is that healing is not something one does on Sunday morning. To be a healer is to embrace healing as an integral part of a philosophy of life. As a healer, one needs to understand that the pursuit of personal growth means laying aside their ego to become a pure channel for the Infinite Source. This is quite a complex issue. To understand the value of personal growth also means acknowledging fear of growth with the determination to go past fear. As healers pursue their personal spiritual growth, they automatically become aware of things that had previously been unknown. Doors that were invisible now become visible. Each of these doors presents a further opportunity to be aware of the mulitdimensionality of the universe, which in turn leads to becoming a clearer channel for healing.
The ultimate goal for a healer in pursuing their spiritual growth is to become At-One with Infinite Love for the purpose of helping others. As you can see, the subject of spiritualism and spiritual growth is of great interest to many people all over the world. During the last year the membership of the Swampscott Church of Spirituality has doubled. Clearly, people from all walks of life are attracted to the wisdom found in our Declaration of Principles.
