Built by Sarah P. Winchester, the heiress to the fortune generated by the famous Winchester Rifle Company, Winchester House is located on South Winchester Boulevard, San Jose. It is said to haunted by the ghosts of those killed by the Wichester Rifle and by the former owner herself. The property was originally a farmhouse of just eight rooms. Between 1884 and her death 38 years later, Sarah P. Winchester added a further 152 rooms.

It seems that Sarah P. Winchester was warned by a medium that unless she lived in a house where the building never ceased the spirits of those shot dead by the Winchester Rifle would haunt her. Obviously Mrs Winchester took this seriously and to the age of 85, when she died, continued to have builders construct rooms and all kinds of none essential stairways and doors leading nowhere. There are approximately 10,000 windows in the Winchester house, over 900 doors, 40 staircases and the list goes on.

Many famous psychic investigators have visited Winchester House and reported hearing ghostly organ music and seeing mysterious floating lights. It is a fact that Mrs. Sarah P. Winchester did play the organ. You can visit Winchester House, the home built for ghosts, as it is now open to the public as a tourist attraction.
