BACHELOR'S GROVE GRAVEYARD

Back--Home

Said to be the most haunted cemetery in the U.S.A. Bachelor's Grove is located in the suburbs of Chicago. It gained its name from the number of single young men buried there during the creation of Illionois-Michigan Canal. The graveyard was taken out of commission in the mid 1960's but it still maintains its haunted status.

One of the most horrible stories surrounding Bachelor's Grove concerns the murder of a young man. He was parked near the cemetery courting his girlfriend when a news broadcast on the radio warned of an escaped lunatic running loose nearby. Deciding to move along the young man tried to start the car, but it would no go. So he went out, raised the bonnet and began to attempt to fix it. Some minutes later the girl hears a scraping noise along the roof of the car and looks out to see policeman arriving. They open the car door and instruct her to move forwards and not look back. However, she feels she must see what was scraping on the car roof. She turned and in horror saw her boyfriend hanging from a tree head down with his throat slit. The scraping noise was his finger-nails scratching along the roof.

Sounds like a place to avoid. But if you are in Chicago and feel like a fright night then why not drive over. But take my advice, keep the cars doors locked.
